This work explores the gradual sense of invisibility many women experience as they age, confronting the deep-rooted societal biases that render aging women less visible and valued compared to their male counterparts. By highlighting this often-overlooked experience, the work aims to spark reflection on how age and gender intersect to create unique challenges for women.

The use of a traditionally classical frame contrasts with the contemporary subject matter, compelling the viewer to confront the work with the demand, “Look at me.” This deliberate juxtaposition emphasises the need for recognition and visibility in a world that often looks past women as they age.

Footnote: This work has sparked many conversations amongst friends, aquaintences and those interested in the work. It seems we all have a story to share that contributes to the experience of aging as women.
